Budgewoi Sailing Club is a fun, friendly, and easy-going sailing club on the southern shore of Lake Munmorah. Established in 1972 by Ashley Chapman & Stan Vitnell. The club has always been a place where young & old can both learn & enjoy the sport of sailing in a friendly environment open to all. With sailing classes & races held weekly, across a variety of "off the beach" classes.
Budgewoi Sailing Club welcomes sailors of all experience levels, whether an old salt or brand new to sailing, come and join in the fun! Access to the rigging area is via the laneway at the intersection of Noela Place and Natuna Avenue, Budgewoi.
Our Policy is "To encourage and promote the development of sailing; to provide teaching, training and coaching facilities for beginners of all ages; to provide competitive sailing under the Racing Rules of Sailing for any class; to encourage family and community paticipation, and to generally provide social activities for all members"
Due to limited water depth sailing is restricted to centreboard yachts. Wyong Council permits the use of the reserve - a wooded area featuring old paperbarks - and has provided a spacious, lakeside sealed car park, toilet and changing rooms. It also maintains a large grassy, rigging area leading immediately to almost unlimited easy beach launching. There is no club house but the club operates a well-equiped canteen under the trees, and has access to adequate meeting and lecture rooms close by.
The club holds the only acquatic licence on Lake Munmorah, so it can lay unrestricted courses of any kind, to any wind. Almost exclusive use ensures that large regatta fleets can compete under the best conditions, without the interference and congestion experienced in metropolitan waters.
Management is competent and businesslike, and there is considerable expertise in the Race Committee, most of whom are experienced sailors, trained through various YA procedures and guidelines. Sailing school classes are held on Sunday mornings from 10am and enrol anyone anytime during the sailing season from September to June.
